Acceler8 program

Tewantin State School implements an innovative program designed for students exceeding in their studies called Acceler8. This program enables bright, highly motivated students to be grouped together, inspiring and challenging them.

This program covers eight different key learning areas, including:

  • The arts (visual art, music, dance, drama, media)
  • English
  • History
  • Information, communication and technology (ICT)
  • Languages other than English (LOTE)
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Sport

Throughout the year, students are provided with many opportunities to engage in a range of activities offered through Acceler8.

Advanced music camp

This annual event invites talented musicians to perform with like-minded students across the Sunshine Coast and Hinterland. Students' musician skills are extended whilst on the camp and continue as they are encouraged to play in all school music groups.

DesignX and iDesign

Students selected to participate in this program work on a range of design challenges, encouraging students to draw on their knowledge and understanding about science and technology.

Enrichmatics

This program complements the extension activities your child's class teacher provides, and also gives the students the opportunity to work with like-minded students on challenging tasks, preparing them for later events such as the UNSW Mathematics or Australian Mathematics test.

Selected students in year 5 to 7 participate in the Australian Mathematics Enrichment and Challenge Stages.

Loving literacy

This program immerses students in challenging literacy activities, including the use of ICTs (i.e. iPads, digital cameras, computers, etcetera). Depending upon the age group of students, students review a favourite novel/book and create an eye-catching book trailer, promoting the book to other students. Other programs develop creating writing knowledge, skills and understandings about the writing process from planning through to publishing (students' work is published in a local book titled Small but Loud Voices).
