Tewantin State School has a proud history of encouraging and developing a love of music in our students. All students from Prep to Year 6 have at least one 30 minute music lesson each week.

Students from Prep to Year 2 work toward reading and writing music, primarily through singing and using percussion instruments informed by use of the Kodaly method. In Years 3 and 4 students develop skills using tuned instruments - the recorder and the ukulele. In Years 5 and 6 students explore increasingly sophisticated song material including singing in two part harmony and performing complex rhythms.

Tewantin State School also offers students the opportunity to learn a string instrument from Years 3 to 6, and brass, woodwind or percussion from Years 4 to 6. Students participate in interschool events such as Eisteddfods and the Fanfare competition.

The Tewantin State School band regularly performs at both school events and at community events including leading the Tewantin Anzac Day Parade and performing at Vietnam Veterans Day.

Students are able to take small group and individual lessons in piano, which are available through private teachers during class time for a small fee.

Free musical activities include recorder group, junior and senior choir, and beginner and advanced ukulele groups. These groups meet throughout the week at lunchtimes.
